Born in Hollywood, California, on July 25, 1956, Roger’s life truly blossomed in 1962 when he was welcomed into the hearts and home of his adoptive parents, Horace and Dorothy Delaney. Together, they raised him in Freer & Premont, Texas, grounding him in the values of faith and community.
Roger’s deep walk with Jesus began in early childhood. Over a lifetime of facing adversity, his faith only grew stronger and more resilient. Roger often expressed his deepest desire: to live as a walking testimony to the love and faithfulness of Christ, hoping his journey would guide others to His saving grace. Today, his family takes immense comfort in knowing, without a doubt, that Roger is resting eternally in the presence of the Lord.
It was through the painful loss of his own mother that Roger discovered his true calling. He dedicated over 40 years of his life to comforting others as a funeral director, serving communities across Texas and in Jacksonville, Florida, before retiring in 2022. His profound compassion, gentle spirit, and unwavering commitment to guiding grieving families through their darkest hours remain a beautiful, lasting legacy.
Beyond his ministry of comfort, Roger brought joy to the world through his magnificent voice. He began singing in church at just six years old, and music became the heartbeat of his life. Whether he was leading worship, anchoring Christmas productions, or singing karaoke to an instant fan base at every opportunity, Roger’s music brought people together.
His love and legacy will be forever cherished by his two sons, Christian (Ashley) Delaney and Marty Lavendar; his eight adored grandchildren; his sisters, Bobbie Pepper and Jackie Ramirez; his brother, Steven Pepper; and a large, loving circle of nieces and nephews & friends.
A celebration of Roger’s life and faith will be held on Wednesday, August 5th, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, 3304 E. Mockingbird Lane, Victoria, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Roger will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery in Goliad, Texas.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service in Macclenny, Florida in September. Details will be forthcoming.
