Mr. Rolla Don Gripp, age 65, passed away suddenly on Wednesday afternoon, June 29, 2011. He was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was born in Victoria on July 17th, 1945, to the late Edwin Gripp and Lillie Pargac Gripp. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1963. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1968. He returned to Victoria and worked for many years in sales and the pest control business. He loved to hunt, fish and most of all play golf. He spent many days happily practicing on the driving range always looking for that perfect drive.
Survivors include his daughter, Susan Renee Gripp Pena, and his granddaughter, Lauren Renee Pena, both of Corpus Christi; his sister Mary Louise Ruth and husband, Roger Ruth, of Victoria; brothers, Edwin Gripp, and his wife, Dolores, of San Angelo, and James Gripp and his wife, Melva, of Yoakum; aunts, Madlyn Pargac and Lydia Pargac. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Cheryl Jackson, Valerie New, Gordon Gripp, Laura Shinefield, Russel Gripp, Leanne Hutcherson, Kelly Gordon and their spouses, numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son John David Gripp in 1986.
A rosary will be recited at 9:30 am on Saturday, July 2nd at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral with the funeral mass following at 10:00am, Msgr. Michael Harrold officiating. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow at Catholic Cemetery #3.
Pallbearers will be Gordon Gripp, Jeff New, Gerald Pargac, Ray Pargac, Russel Gripp and Paul Gordon.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Our Lady of Victory Cathedral, St. Joseph’s High School or a charity of the donor’s choice.
