Ross proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, seeing action from North Africa to Germany. After returning home, he went to college at South Texas State Teacher College in San Marcos and received his B.S. in Chemistry. During that time, he met the love of his life, Lillian L. Scherlen and they were married in 1947 and celebrated more than 68 years of marriage. He went to work for E.I. DuPont in 1951 and retired after 32 years of dedicated service as an Instrument-Electrical Supervisor. Ross had a small cattle ranch near Ander, TX and raised cattle for many years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. His faith in God was strong and he loved to lead his family in prayer. Ross was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many days fishing and hunting. If he was asked where he would like to travel in the world, his answer was always to the bay house to fish and play dominoes with his many friends. Lillian loved to fish and the two of them made many hundreds of fishing trips together.
He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and loved having the whole family together.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian L. Scherlen Hoff; son, Ross E. Hoff (Carolyn); daughters, Janis D. Hoff Pope of Sedona, AZ and Sharon K. Hoff Chappell (Bruce); grandchildren, Chris Langford, Allison Langford Norris and husband Craig, Brandi Brannan Barthels and husband Russell, Kimbralee Brannan Mosman and husband Craig, Waylan Brannan III, Brian Hoff; and great grandchildren, Hunter Barthels, MacKenzie Barthels, Heather Barthels and Kelsey Mosman.
