

Samuel De La Garza, 85, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Victoria, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017, on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Samuel was born on November 6, 1932 in McFaddin, Texas to the late Jesus M. and Maria De La Garza. Samuel was a direct descendant of Spanish-Texas Pioneer Cattleman Don Carlos De La Garza (Carlos Rancho, TX). He was employed by Coca-Cola.
He enjoyed the outdoors, BBQ’s, music and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved his family and was a very devout Roman Catholic. And, Samuel never met a stranger.
He is survived by his son, Jesus Randy De La Garza of Port Lavaca, Texas; daughter, Rowena Joyce De La Garza of Austin, Texas; sisters; Julia De La Garza-Ramirez of Bloomington, Texas, and Maria De La Garza-Alvarado of Aransas Pass, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer Pauline De La Garza, Jonathan Rene (Cassandra Nunez) De La Garza, Michael Paul De La Garza and Jose Alberto De La Garza; great-grandchildren, Careasa Marie De La Garza, Jonathan Rene De La Garza, Jr., John Anthony De La Garza, Izaha Michael De La Garza, Jordan Paul De La Garza, Michael Paul De La Garza, Jr., Marcelino Frias, Anthony Frias, and Raiden Frias; numerous nieces and nephews.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Vincenta Contreras, Gertrudes Olivares, Tomasa Perez, Josefa Jimenez, Genoveva Salazar; and brothers, Jesus M. De La Garza III, Jose Alejandro De La Garza, Antonio De La Garza, David De La Garza and Reymundo De La Garza.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm followed by the Rosary and Divine Chaplet at 7:00 pm on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Victoria.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 am, Monday, December 18, 2017 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church,with Father Eliecer Patino Hurtado presiding.
Burial will follow at the De La Garza Cemetery on the Old San Antonio River Road.
