She married the love of her life, Donald Ray, on May 18, 1958. They were married for 68 wonderful years. They moved to Victoria in 1963, then to the great community of Mission Valley in 1965. She attended and was very involved in Zion Lutheran Church of Mission Valley. Shelvy was involved in several church groups: the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Rebecca Ruth Circle, Ladles of Love, and a sewing/quilting group. She was an Election official for many years.
Shelvy retired from Southwestern Bell after 18 years and then from South Texas Electric Co-op after 12 years of service.
She was an excellent cook, especially her Sunday pot Roast, legendary fruit salad, and her Thanksgiving dressing. Shelvy loved her family vacations at the Frio River, playing dominoes, especially 42, making sausage and canning jelly and pickles, sewing and quilting, feeding and watching her hummingbirds, gardening and plants, and collecting autumn leaf china, but most of all she loved her family!
She is survived by her husband, Donald Ray Schneider, daughters, Cynthia Klesel (fiancé, Rick Bigham), Kristine Zarate (Abe), son, Alan Schneider (Kim) all of Victoria; grandchildren, Jordan Klesel, Lauren Castilla (Aaron), David Klesel (fiance', Riko Tsukada), Jake Schneider (Meagan), Lane Schneider (fiancé, Madison Dimbleby), Ky Zarate, Katarina Zarate and her great-grandchildren, Oakleigh, Raylon, Stetson, Magnolia and one great-grandson on the way.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Viola White and Esther Beusing; and brothers Carl, Harold, Leslie, Frank, and Jack Steves.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, October 30, 2026, from 5-7 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.
Funeral Services are Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 10 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Mission Valley, with burial to follow at Mission Valley Cemetery.
Pallbearers are David Klesel, Jake Schneider, Lane Schneider, Ky Zarate, Abe Zarate, Rick Bigham, and Aaron Castilla.
