

Shirley was a member of First English Lutheran Church where she was a member of several women’s groups. She loved to garden and take care of her plants around the house. Shirley was an avid reader and read her bible devotions daily. She was proud of her home and family and enjoyed nurturing her family. She loved taking vacations with her husband, Roger, and in later years, they went on day trips to local country towns, visiting the little market days they had set up. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt and her family was very dear to her heart.
Shirley is survived by her son, Michael R. Thomas; sisters, Annette Kloesel (Kenneth), Ina Faupel (Robin), Janet Speer; grandchildren, Maegen Crisp (Cameron), Courtney Clark (Constantine), Haley Davis (Brandon), Jennifer Jasso (Craig); stepchildren, Julie Buergner, Roger N. Buergner Jr, Michael Buergner; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roger N. Buergner Sr.; and daughters, Lisa Hardin and Jacque Thomas.
A Celebration of Life will be held, Friday, January 16, 2026 at 10:30 AM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with Pastor Chip Reynolds officiating. Inurnment of ashes will immediately follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Following the burial, a reception and fellowship will be held at Felger Hall at First English Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First English Lutheran Church or St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.
