

She was a Sister of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament. Sister Lucilla attended grammar school and high school in Sweet Home Public School, as well as attending high school at St. Joseph High School in Yoakum and graduated from Nazareth Academy in Victoria. In 1945 she entered Nazareth Convent in Victoria and made her first profession in 1947. Sister Lucilla received her education from Incarnate Word College (now University of the Incarnate Word) and Trinity University in San Antonio and St. Louis University. During Sister Lucilla’s active ministry, she taught on the elementary level at St. Leo’s School, San Antonio; St. Michael School, Cuero; and Nazareth Academy, Victoria. She served as principal at St. Michael School in Cuero. Sister ministered in the health care area at Mercy Hospital in Jourdanton, and in Cuero, ministered at Burns Hospital and then at Cuero Community Hospital. She also served as administrator for Mercy Hospital and for Burns Hospital and Cuero Community Hospital. Sister Lucilla served as treasurer at Nazareth Convent for several years. Her hobbies included painting, gardening and counted cross stitching. In 1997 Sister Lucilla moved to Incarnate Word Convent and generously continued sharing her many gifts and in her later years she entered into her Apostolate of Prayer and Suffering.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Alice Donnelly and JoAnn Brehm; sister-in-law, Imogene Donnelly; brothers-in-law, Hugo Brehm, Carl Schindler, William Culak.
She is survived by her brother, Lavern Donnelly; sisters, Margie Schindler, Erna Mae (John) Braden, Mertes Culak, Theresa (Charles) Bohne, Etta (Paul) Nugent; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
On Wednesday, April 6, 2017, at Incarnate Word Convent, a Visitation and Scriptural Rosary will be held at 3:00 pm followed by a Wake Service with Evening Praise and Sharing of Memories at 6:30 pm.
On Thursday, April 7, 2017, the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am at Incarnate Word Convent with Father Phi Nguyen as the presider. Burial will follow at Catholic Cemetery No. 3.
Pallbearers will be Larry Donnelly, Michael Schindler, Kenneth Schindler, Bill Braden, Glen Braden, and Chris Culak. Memorials may be made to Incarnate Word Convent, Hospice of South Texas, or donor’s choice. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.colonialfuneralhomevictoria.com
