

Stephen Oscar Schilhab, 61 of Victoria passed away August 26, 2011 after a brief illness. He was born to the Dora Hagel Schilhab and the late Oscar Schilhab of Victoria. Stephen was a lifelong working cowboy with a passion for roping and rodeoing. Throughout his cowboying career, Steve worked on several ranches, including the John Welder ranches in Bloomington and Seadrift, and the Leita Family ranches in Telferner and Wood Hi. He was widely recognized as an elite horseman, winning jackpot roping events on a regular basis. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Stephen is survived by his mother Dora Hagel Schilhab of Victoria; son Kyle Schilhab of Fort Worth and grandson Dace; sister Gail Bragg and husband Dawyne of Victoria; brothers Gene Schilhab and wife Judy of Victoria, John Schilhab and wife Cheryl of Boerne, Gerald Schilhab and wife Cathy of Victoria, Thomas Schilhab and wife Liz of Victoria.
Stephen was a big-hearted and loving son, brother and friend, and will be missed by all.
A rosary will be recited Sunday August 28, 2011 at 7 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, with funeral services to be held Monday August 29, 2011 at 10 AM, also at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, with Deacon Dick Wearden officiating.
Interment will follow in Telferner Cemetery
Pallbearers will be John Hagel, Carl Williams, Wayne Leita, John Leita, Michael Leita and Russell Heffler, and honorary pallbearers will the nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of South Texas, 605 E. Locust Ave. Victoria, Texas 77901, whose kind and loving care were both a comfort to Stephen and the family.
