Ted was born on November 24, 1940. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was defined by his faith, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Ted shared nearly 63 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Claudia Blanchard Sheblak. Together, they built a family that remained the center of his world. He took immense pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to share their accomplishments with others.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Claudia; his daughters, Laurene Hornstein and husband Clay, and Deborah Janecek and fiancé Jayson Housson; his grandchildren, Josh Janecek and wife Jessi, Colton Hornstein and wife Emily, Caityn Whitlow and husband DJ, Meghan Janecek, and Colleen Janecek Mikeska and husband Caleb; his brother, Gene Sheblak; and his sisters-in-law, Olivia Blanchard, Adelene Blanchard, Mary Sheblak, and Jennie Sheblak.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Annie Sheblak; his son, Kenneth Sheblak; his brothers, Charles Sheblak and Robert Sheblak; his sister, Sr. Mary Virginia Sheblak; his brothers-in-law, Francis Blanchard, Bernard Blanchard, and Mark Blanchard; and his sisters-in-law, Theresa Sheblak and Stella Blanchard.
Ted proudly served his country in the National Guard during the early years of his marriage. After completing training at the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service, he began his career as a mortician and funeral director, serving families in San Antonio and later working at Duckett Funeral Home in Victoria. In 1975, he began a long and dedicated career with Union Carbide, where he worked as an operator until his retirement in 2003.
A man of many talents, Ted was a true handyman, carpenter, and jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed building and flying remote-control airplanes, fishing, and tackling any project that came his way. He was highly organized, remarkably compassionate, and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Ted was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He generously volunteered his time with Habitat for Humanity and Hospice of South Texas, reflecting the deep compassion and servant’s heart that characterized his life.
Above all else, Ted was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather (Gpa), and a man whose kindness, strength, and faith touched everyone who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and dedication will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
