Victor Alfred Chovanec, 91, of Victoria, passed away on November 9th, 2023. He was born on January 12, 1932, in El Campo, Texas to the late Annie Vasicek and Willie F. Chovanec.
Victor graduated from El Campo High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953. He married Mildred Marek in Louise Texas on February 10, 1954. They moved to Victoria Texas in 1954 and he began work as an operator at the new Seadrift Union Carbide plant. During his tenure at UCC, Vic served as an operator, instrument mechanic, and instrument planner. He retired in January 1994 after 40 years with the company. Upon retirement Vic and Mildred enjoyed traveling, visiting friends and relatives, playing cards and dominos, and being involved in church activities.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years and 9 months, Mildred (Marek) Chovanec; sons, Darrel (Naomi) Chovanec and Mark (Lisa) Chovanec of Victoria; grandchildren, Candice (Billy) Melzow, Clint (Laura) Chovanec, Jordan (Monica) Chovanec and Tyler (Jessica) Chovanec; and great-granddaughters, Anna Melzow and Masyn Chovanec.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leroy Chovanec, Julius Chovanec, and Willie Chovanec; and sisters, Emma Holub and Lillian Boone.
A visitation will be held at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral on Monday, November 13th at 1 pm, followed by a Rosary at 1:30 pm and mass services at 2 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Marek, Jeffery Vrana, Clint Chovanec, Jordan Chovanec, Tyler Chovanec, and Billy Melzow.
Memorial donations may be made to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital or to Our Lady of Victory Cathedral.
