Virginia J. Shults came into this world on July 23, 1932. She was born in Rochester, PA to Ethel Morrow Allison and Roy Kindleberger. She moved to Texas City at the age of twelve to live with her cousin and then finished schooling and then moved to Port Lavaca. There she married William “Buck” Grimes, father of her children, Dana Elizabeth Grimes Knowlton and William “Bill” Grimes. She raised her children in the Methodist Church in Port Lavaca, as she was a lifelong United Methodist.
At this time Virginia, Cousin Sissy and her husband, Bert Worsham, lived in Port Lavaca as well and raised their children, David Worsham and Laura Meiske, who were like second children to Virginia.
Virginia started teaching in 1974 after finishing her degree from South West Texas, now known as Texas State University, where she would go on to earn her master’s degree as well. She taught in Port Lavaca for 17 years. She would then meet the love of her life, Glenn Robert “Bob” Shults and her family grew to include his three sons, Scott, Dean and Gary Shults. Virginia’s daughter Dana gave birth to her grandchildren, Greg Knowlton and Megan Knowlton Demmer. In 1997 Virginia and Bob moved to Victoria and became members of John Wesley United Methodist Church. She lived the rest of her life in Victoria.
Throughout her life she was dedicated lover of animals and had dogs, cats and even birds. She also had a deep and abiding faith that she practiced all of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bob and Buck, as well as both of her children. She is survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her son-in-law and cousins.
