

Virginia Lillian Corder Weaver passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the age of 93. She was born on January 12, 1921, in Lockhart, Texas, to Lora and Noah Corder. The family moved to Crescent Valley, near Victoria, where she was raised. Virginia graduated from Patti Welder High School and attended Victoria College until marrying Robert Weaver. She earned a degree in education from Southwest Texas State University and a Masters degree from the University of Houston at Victoria. Her teaching career began at Stubbs School in Victoria County where she and another teacher taught grades 1 through 6 in a two-room school. She later transferred to VISD where she taught fifth grade at O’Connor Elementary School, and then became a Helping Teacher for VISD. She was Teacher of the Year in 1982. She loved teaching and enjoyed seeing her former students as they grew into adulthood in Victoria.
She belonged to Eastern Star, was a long-time member and served as president of the local Delta Mu Chapter of the ADK Sorority, and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church. After retiring, she enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, sewing and quilting, attending Bible Study groups, playing with her cat, maintaining a beautiful yard, and visiting with her family and friends. Having lived in Victoria almost her whole life, she knew many people and had numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, sisters, Hazel Sarlls and Myldred Crouch, and by her brothers, Tennison Corder and Bill Corder. She is survived by her two daughters: Kathryn Caputo and her husband, Rick, of Victoria, and Linda Sides and her husband, Paul, of San Antonio. She has three grandchildren: Covey Morrow and wife, Tammy, of Yoakum, Kim Smith and husband, Rick, of Victoria, and Teri Sides of New Braunfels. She also has five great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Homewood Residence for their excellent care during her several years of living there and especially during her final weeks. Also, gratitude is extended to Accolade Hospice for their care and assistance.
Funeral services will be presided over by Rev. Jim Shamburger at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, 3304 Mockingbird Lane, on Friday, March 28, 2014, at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery on U.S. Hwy. 87.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the ADK Sorority, local Delta Mu Chapter, 1234 Brownson, Victoria, Tx 77905, or to the First Baptist Church of Victoria, Youth Fellowship, 301 Glass, Victoria, Tx 77901.
