Walter "Steve" Louis Stevens Jr.

Walter Stevens passed away on October 6, 2018 at the age of 80. He was born on November 27, 1937 to Walter L. and Annette Ciminera Stevens Sr. in Glen Cove, New York. He joined the US Air Force which brought him to Foster Field in Victoria, He met Patricia M. Schlabach while stationed there and they were married on May 3, 1959 in Woodsboro, Texas. Walter was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1961 at which time he went to work for Devereux School. He worked for Devereux performing everything from auto mechanics to building maintenance. He later worked for HB Zachry at the DuPont plant and VISD performing HVAC maintenance until his retirement in 2002.

After retirement, Walter and Pattie traveled extensively with their travel companions, Dennis and Norma Lawrence.

Walter is survived by his wife, brother Robert W. Stevens of New York, New York, sons Robert L. Stevens and wife Suzanne of Nursery, Scott E Stevens and wife Sharon of Nursery, Dr. Mark L Stevens of Victoria and daughter Christa M Anderson of Victoria, grandchildren Renae Stevens, Dr. Jennifer Ballard (Danny), Paige Baros (Brice), Brandon Stevens, Whitney Stevens, Madison Anderson and Sy Anderson and five great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at DeTar ICU and the Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion for their wonderful care and kindness.

Visitation will be from 6pm to 7pm Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels followed by a rosary. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10am Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A military flag folding will take place at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Mary’s Building Fund or the Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion.
