Weldon E. Anders of Houston, formerly of Victoria, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. He was born August 30, 1920 on the Elder place in Carancahua, Texas to the late Virgil Columbus and Irene Smith Anders. Weldon served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II as a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator flying 44 missions over enemy territory in Europe.
He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Melba Frankson, on May 30, 1945 in Sioux Falls, SD. They had 67 ½ years together. After leaving the service he and Melba returned to Victoria and established Anders Nursery and Landscape where they were in business for over 40 years.
Weldon was a member of the First Baptist Church of Victoria and a volunteer at Christ's Kitchen. He was an avid reader, loved fishing especially floundering, travel, gardening, and The Cowboys.
Survivors include his wife Melba Frankson Anders; daughters Linda Anders Woods and Deborah Anders Rashdi of Houston, and Patricia Anders Harrison of Bel Air, MD.; five grandchildren, Keelin, Alex, Ashlin, Matthew, and Tracy; two great grandchildren, Nathan and Riley; and numerous nephews and nieces. We would like to include our caregivers Dina Asencio, Reina Melendez, and Heddy Estreda.
Preceded in death by his son Gary Weldon Anders, his son-in-law Tony Grady Woods, and his sister Virginia and three brothers, Vernon, Jack, and Melvin.
Services will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2012 at 2 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapels with Rev. Casey DuBose officiating. Full military graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council.
