Weldon Lee Rother, 89, of Victoria, passed away surrounded by his family August 11, 2018. Weldon was born December 20, 1928 in Hallettsville to the Louis and Mary Stanzel Rother. Weldon served in the United States Navy from 1948-1950 and participated in the Bikini Atoll Nuclear testing. Weldon loved to be in the country on his small ranch in Hallettsville working with his cattle and just enjoying the peacefulness. He was an avid baseball fan and coached many years. He also was involved in Cub Scouts. Weldon also enjoyed his pecan tress which he grafted and planted and they produced many pecans which he was very proud of. Weldon was also very proud of his German heritage and loved to talk about his family history. His biggest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella J. Kubenka Rother; daughter, Debbie L. Merritt (Mike) of Victoria; son, Rodney Rother (Julie) of Victoria; brother, Daniel Rother (Dorothy) of Hallettsville; grandchildren; Jason Merritt (Kristine) of Victoria, Josh Merritt of Rosenburg, Jacob Merritt (Sarah) of Victoria; great-grandchildren, Braden, Zach, Kate, Kensey, Rylee and one great-grandchild on the way. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Weldon is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen Grafe, Doddie Chovanetz, Estele Baros, Mildred Polk, Joyce Wagner; brother, Buddy Rother and an infant brother.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7 PM.
Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Merritt, Josh Merritt, Jacob Merritt, Billy Grafe, Daryl Polk and Wayne Rother.
Memorial donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Association, Citizens Cancer Center or Our Lady of Victory School.
