William Lee Sills, 69, of Nursery, passed away on June 11, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Lee was born July 6, 1954 to the late Martha Henry and William Carl Sills at Bryan Air Force Base Hospital in Bryan, Texas.
On October 19, 1974 Lee married Ray Beth Taylor Sills, the girl he always wanted to sit with on the front porch swing, enjoying their little “Slice of Heaven on Earth” and grow old with. Together they built their home in Nursery, the land he always loved. Lee enjoyed working on fast cars, dump trucks, fishing in the bays and rescuing all kinds of animals that needed a loving home. Lee loved to work on things out in his shop and there was nothing he couldn’t do or fix. He was a life-long mechanic.
Lee was a founding member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a faithful supporter of the CCD Program.
Lee was also a very important part of the Nursery Cemetery. He begin mowing the cemetery as a youngster and eventually was President of the Nursery Cemetery Association. He took pride in his work there.
Lee always said that “God had been good to him” and that the biggest joy in his life was his sons.
Lee is survived by his wife, Ray Beth Taylor Sills; sons, Christopher Sills and fiancé’, Ashley Valenzuela, Chad Sills and wife Jennifer Leita Sills; his grandchildren who affectionately called him “poppy”, Hayden, Logan, Ethan, Dawson, Jazmine, Anthony, Jonathan, Timothy; sister and childhood partner in crime, Sue and her husband, Dell; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patti and Hamp Burwick.
He is preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Taylor and granddaughter, Lauren Sills.
Visitation is Monday, June 17, 2024 from 5-7 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7 PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 1 PM at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial to immediately follow at Nursery Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Christopher Sills, Chad Sills, Hayden Sills, Anthony Sills, Phillip Henry, and Brett Temple.
Honorary Pallbearers are Hamp Burwick, Dell Temple, all of his grandchildren, and all of his nephews on both sides of the family.
A very heartfelt thank you and appreciation to Dr. Frank Parma and Staff, Dr. Tyson Meyer and the staff at Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center and Dr. Daniel Cano and the staff at Citizen’s Medical Center for all the care during Lee’s illness.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas, Acres of Animals, Holy Family CCD/RCIA Programs, Masses offered in Lee’s name, any Parkinson’s Foundation/support group or donor’s choice.
