

Amalia (Molly) Ramirez, Age 83, of Oro Grande passed away June 29, 2016. She was born in Riverside, California on March 20, 1933. She lived in Oro Grande for 45 years and retired from St. Mary’s Hospital, Apple Valley with 24 years of service. Molly had a passion for American History in general, but in Oro Grande in particular, due to it being the home of both her grandfathers’ Cesareo Blancarte Ramirez and Angel Diaz Hernandez and also her grandmother Enriqueta Bernal. They settled in Oro Grande as early as 1906 and help built the community. Her parents Jesus and Adelina Ramirez also lived in Oro Grande. She loved Oro Grande and the Mojave desert and spent many hours, materials, and labor to preserve her town’s historical sites, including writing a column called Molly’s Corner in a monthly newsletter she and her friends created. She provided her readers with historical facts and fond memories of Oro Grande. Molly and a few good friends, including Joe Manners (known as the Honorary Mayor of Oro Grande) spent many hours working together to provide the citizens of Oro Grande with a clean, safe environment and needed public services and facilities. Molly is survived by 7 sisters; Margaret Velardes, Jessie Oyhamburu (Jean), Mary York, Betty Navarro (Bobby), Leanor Santspree, Lynn Vargo, Adelina Luna (John) and 1 brother Raymond Ramirez(Vickie). Aunt Molly did not have any children of her own. But, coming from a large family, she had many nieces and nephews. Aunt Molly involved herself into their lives, providing them with love, goodies, and discipline. Her home was always open to any family member in need. Aunt Molly will be greatly missed by her family.
