With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bernard John Garcia, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on July 12, 2025, surrounded by love.
Born on August 20, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, Bernard was a proud Angeleno through and through — deeply connected to his roots, his community, and the vibrant city that shaped his life. He was one of six children born to Juan and Soledad Garcia. Though several of his siblings preceded him in death, he is survived by his devoted sisters, Sally and Rachel, who will always carry his memory close to their hearts.
Bernard served his country with honor after being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he pursued a college education, nurturing both his intellectual curiosity and spiritual growth.
Among his greatest joys in life were his daughters, Josett and Andrea. Bernard was a fiercely loving and supportive father — always present, always proud, and always ready to do whatever was needed for his girls. In 1996, Bernard’s life took a beautiful turn when he met Lori, the love of his life. Living across the street from one another, their bond grew quickly into a deep, lasting love. They married and shared a journey filled with laughter, strength, and unwavering devotion.
Music was Bernard’s lifelong passion. As the lead singer of several local bands, he lit up stages with his powerful voice and presence. His final group, Power Play, performed their last show in 2014 at Stevens Steak House — a night filled with rhythm, joy, and unforgettable memories. A dedicated vinyl record collector, Bernard found magic in the warmth and richness of analog sound — a reflection of his own soulful nature and appreciation for life’s finer textures.
A loyal Dodgers fan, Bernard wore his blue proudly, cheering with unwavering support through every season. He embodied the spirit of Los Angeles — resilient, vibrant, and full of heart.
To those who knew him, Bernard was a man of strong opinions and a firm presence, yet also deeply giving, loyal, and rooted in love. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, particularly his devotion to St. Jude, the patron saint of hope and impossible causes.
In his final days, Bernard faced illness with immense strength and dignity. Though his body weakened, his spirit never wavered. He fought valiantly, just as he had lived — with courage, determination, and grace.
Bernard leaves behind a legacy of love, music, faith, and resilience. He was blessed with a large and loving family, including his nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry his light forward.
He will be deeply missed but forever remembered — in every song sung, every memory shared, and every heart he touched.
Rest in peace, Bernard. A soldier, a singer, a proud Angeleno, and a fighter to the very end. We will carry you with us — always.
