Beverly Joyce Gibbs, age 85, died on Christmas Day at 1:30 a.m. at her home in Apple Valley due to congestive heart failure.
Beverly was born Joyce LaVerne Wilson, on June 1, 1934 to her parents William R. K. and Violet Jeannette (Willis) Wilson in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was the second of four children. She was raised as Beverly June Caldwell by her loving mother, Estelle Caldwell of Los Angeles, California.
Beverly loved good conversations with family and friends, traveling and reading, often reading 2-3 books simultaneously. She worked as a professional singer, administrator of convalescent hospitals, interior decorator, medical assistant, and senior clerk for the Department of Water and Power of Los Angeles. She was a member of Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church and served as Regent of two courts of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Although she received many awards, recognition and accolades, her greatest joy, according to her, was raising her children and knowing that she loved them unconditionally and unwaveringly.
Family meant everything to Beverly. She is survived by her adoring and devoted husband of almost 29 years, Robert M. Gibbs. Their marriage was one of tremendous love and tenderness. Also surviving are her children, Linda Jonas of Lake Kiowa, TX; James P. (Nicole) Thompson of Lomita, John P. (Carol) Thompson of Apple Valley, and Lori (Kyle) Stark of Manhattan Beach; two loving daughters by marriage – Ronda (David) Miller of Apple Valley and Elizabeth (Scot) Hughes of Long Beach; one sister, Lorane Ma of Apple Valley and two brothers, Michael and Christopher Inman of Knoxville, TN. She was a wonderful grandmother to 19 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 27 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, son, J. P.
