Dan was born in Detroit Michigan to Bernard and Helen Kiewicz. Bernard an immigrant from Poland and Helen from Scotland. Dan is a first generation American. He is proceeded in death by his Mother and Father and his brother Bernard II. He is survived by his wife Patricia, son Danny Jr and daughters Lynn, Cherie and Tracie.
Dan was a Model/Pattern Maker by trade. He was regarded as one of the best in the industry and retired from the trade in 1996. Dan loved sports and played football and baseball while growing up. He also played golf which became a life long passion. He was club champion at his home course in Michigan and continued to play until an unfortunate fall and broke his left hip at 82. Dan also like his motorcycles. He owned a ’47 Harley Pan Head and a ’50 model Triumph 650 Scambler.
Dan was involved in many technological achievements in his trade over the years. He taught GE engineers how to form Lexan (Plexiglass successor) so it was optically pure and could be used by the military for the windscreens in Helicopters. He was featured in a documentary on the 1963 Split Window Corvette showing the lay-up and assembly techniques used for the fiberglass bodies.
After retirement, Dan and Pat moved from Michigan to California in 2000 to be close to his son and daughter in-law. He wanted a golf course view and Pat the mountains. They both got what they wanted building a home on the 13 green at Hesperia Golf and Country Club.
Dan also had a green thumb that he used quite effectively in gardens in Michigan growing vegetables and ornamentals and also Rose Bushes and other fauna in California.
Dan will be missed by all that knew him. He was a gentle man with an unassuming demeanor and made friends wherever he went.]
