daughters: Argentina, Josefina Virgina and Norma Deschamps. Unfortunately, that marriage ended and Mom sought a new life in the United States. She emigrated and arrived in New York City on May 21, 1950. While in New York, she met a dashing Dominican gentleman, José Antonio Madera. They were married and had 3 adorable sons: José, twins Cesar, and Carlos Madera. Mom was a full time homemaker, she learned to sew and created many beautiful items to fill her home. In 1960, our family moved across the country to Los Angeles and were blessed with another sweet baby boy, Edward. Eventually our family became homeowners in Pomona, California, where we lived for many years and developed lifelong friendships with our neighbors. In 1971, once again, our family moved to the high desert, Hesperia, California. The Hesperia home became the heart of our family where we would all congregate and eat! Mom was always preparing meals and we loved her delicious Spanish rice, habichuelas, gandules, plátanos, and even pineapple upside down cake. Mom loved to shop for deals. She would have dad drive her to several stores to get the best “specials.” Mom learned to be frugal and she could really stretch a dollar. In the high desert mom enjoyed touring model homes to get ideas for home decor. Mom also loved watching T.V. programs on wildlife and nature themes. She also developed quite a green thumb and dozens of houseplants thrived with her love and care. Mom’s home is literally filled with dozens of photographs and mementos from us, her grandchildren and great grandchildren; her loving devoted family brought her such joy.
Sadly, in 2007, we lost our beloved father, José Antonio. She remained a widow for 13 years. Mom is missed and loved by 6 adoring children, 4 daughter-in-laws, 2 son-in-laws, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Tragically, she lost 1 daughter, 2 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Emma is survived by 3 sisters, her close cousin Aminta, many nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to express our most sincere gratitude for the kindness and amazing care the many professionals at Charter Hospice provided to our Mom, with special thanks to Monica and Mireya. These 2 nurses spent the most time with Emma. We want to also acknowledge Mom’s friend and helper, Maria Soto who was with Mom up to the very end. At Mom’s request, a graveside service will be performed at a date not yet determined. Any gestures of condolences may be sent to:
