Victorville, Ca– Our cherished mother/grandmother, Irene Carrillo, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025 at the age of 76. She is rejoined in Heaven with her husband John, parents, Benito and Felipa Maldonado; from eldest to youngest siblings, Eleanor, Victor, Mary, Frances, Ralph, Edward, Pauline and Benny. Irene was the youngest and last of nine of the Maldonado’s leaving behind a legacy defined by profound love for family, generosity to help, and a quick and witty disposition.
Born on April 5, 1949 in Barstow,Ca. Mom built her life around serving others and upholding the principles she believed in.
For over 25 years, she was a respected and integral part of our local democratic process, serving faithfully as a dedicated Election Official/Poll Worker in Victorville, Ca. She took her role very seriously, believing that every single ballot mattered. During the election season, her energy was tireless, driven by a deep commitment to the community and a quiet pride in ensuring the integrity of the vote.
Despite her tireless work ethic in various jobs including working at an Independent and Assisted Living facility for a decade, she knew the importance of rest and joy. Mom was famous for her love of the sun. If there was a patch of sunshine—whether on the back porch, a park bench, or during a favorite road trip—she was in it, soaking up the warmth with a good book or perhaps just closing her eyes.
She was a pillar of strength, often deflecting concern for herself with her signature line: "I am alright... take care of yourself, I haven't kicked the bucket yet." Her resilience, combined with her naturally warm feisty spirit, made everyone feel welcome and cared for.
Irene Carrillo is survived by her loving family, including her companion for 25 years Reyes Aguirre Cruz, children, Nancy and Joe Gomez, and her son John Carrillo; her adored grandchildren, Marco, Roman, Perla, Alicia and Ashley, her great grand-children Nathaniel, Alina, and Benny, and many nephews and nieces, .
A Celebration of Life will be held in Amboy, Ca TBD Spring 2026. However, condolences may be added and sent through this website.
The verse that provides our family peace is Matthew 11: 28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
