Jimmy went to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 7/12/2016. He was born in Eglantine, Arkansas on November 1st, 1923 to James Rufus Towery and Mary Ellen Bradford Towery. He was the 8th child of 10 born to the family and at 92 years of age, the last of His family to survive. Jimmy is survived by His five children. Four of the children are from His first marriage of 21 years to Gloria Marie Terault, beginning in November 1946, until Gloria’s passing in 1967: Karen Marie Dunaway of Austin, Texas, James Kevin Towery (Barbara) of Ozark, Missouri, Kathryn Lynn Fullilove (Robert) of Manor, Texas, and Robert Kerry Towery (Madeleine) of Santa Barbara, Ca. The fifth of Jimmy’s children: daughter Jennifer Piro-Hernandez (Vince) of Big River, Ca. is from Jimmy’s marriage of 37 years to Janet Lee Dick. Beginning in May 1975, Jim and Janet were married for 37 years until Janet’s passing in September 2011. In addition to Jimmy’s 5 children, He is survived by 14 Grand children and three great Grandchildren. The fourteen grandchildren are: Aspen Dunaway, Katherine Dunaway, Josiah Dunaway, Nathanael Dunaway, Lane Towery, Colin Towery, Ryan Fullilove, Jesse Fullilove, Gracelyn Fullilove, Samuel Fullilove, Ashley Towery, Natalie Towery, Gabrielle Towery, and Brooklyn Delamora His three great grandchildren are Ellette Jean Towery, Haven Morales, and Sophia Morales. Jimmy was a Veteran of World War 2. He spent 22 months in Europe as a member of the Army Air Force 391st Bomber Group as a part of the B-26 Marauders from 1943 to 1945. He received many commendations. He was recalled into active duty during the Korean War in 1950 and 1951. After active military duty Jimmy served the Air Force and the Navy as a Superintendent of Public Works at Oxnard Air Force Base and Point Mugu Naval Air Station, retiring in 1978. In addition to Civil Service, Jimmy was a General Contractor who built schools, Treatment facilities, residences, Fire Stations, and Military bases. He was a Master Mason in the Blue Lodge for over 60 years. He belonged to the Scottish Rite Lodge in Santa Barbara and was an Al Malaikah Shriner for 40 years in Los Angeles, Ca. He was a member of the Eastern Star in Big Bear Lake for 25 years. In His later years, He returned to the Church of Christ, and pursued a life that honored the commands in the Bible. Jim was a husband, a Father, a papa to His grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a good neighbor. He was loved by all and He never met a stranger. He will be remembered by all for His amazing mind, His ability to recall events in His life, His story telling, and for His ability to conquer any task.
