Mario is survived by his wife, Raquel of 20 plus years, his mother and 4 brothers and an abundance of love from his many nieces and nephews along with many other friends and family. In the short time Mario graced us with his presence on earth, he strived to be nothing short of impactful. Mario was the first person to graduate from college in his family and always encouraged his nieces and nephews and even great nieces and nephews to pursue their education. He always said, it was the one thing no one can take away from you, it was priceless. He was class Valedictorian of Lincoln High School, 1976. He was selected by his counselor to appear on the weekly school television newscast broadcast to several schools every week. He was a proud alumnus of East Los Angeles College. He graduated from Cal State Dominguez Hills with a B.A. in Spanish Literature. He was a member of Sigma Alpha...Mario was nothing short of groundbreaking when he started the first Latino organization at ELAC. He traveled the world to broaden his horizons even further every chance he could. While social work for under- privileged children was his calling, he started helping people way before then. As a Boy Scout leader, he served the underprivileged community of Los Angeles with always a smile on his face. He enjoyed the outdoors as much as he enjoyed helping people and almost every one of his family members can tell you about a camping experience with him. He was honored as a distinguished Human Resources Administrator Social Services for Los Angeles County. Admired by his peers, he was known as being highly intelligent, highly perceptive, organized, a fair man who could talk equally with millionaires and with regular folks, a man with a great sense of humor and a great heart. The epitome of a true Boy Scout.
Mario changed many lives in his short time on earth, whether it was the life of his wife, family member, DPSS clients, or a stranger, Mario was nothing short of inspiring and will be missed tremendously. Mario fell ill several years ago and fought a good fight. We all have a calling on this earth and he met his with grace and is now home with the Lord. While we will miss him greatly, we find peace knowing Mario is no longer suffering. He was an amazing Husband, Son, Brother and Uncle. We his surviving family are better of because of Mario’s commitment to his personal excellence, his unselfishness, his compassion and kindness. Mario strived to cultivate a life changing richness in every life he touched.
The Lord tells us, that our hearts not be troubled for the Lord is with us, even as
He goes to prepare a place for us in His father's house. That death is only the end of our pain and suffering and God is our refuge and strength. So we fear not; as we have faith in the Lord our God. For death is but a shadow…
