Robert “Bob” L. Bates, Jr. April 10, 1955 - September 23, 2016 Robert “Bob” L. Bates, Jr., a 38-year resident of the high desert passed away September 23, 2016. Predeceased by Robert “Bob” L. Bates, Sr. and survived by wife, Teresa “Terry” Bates, son, John Bates (Rebecca), daughters Sarah Bates, Rebecca Heldreth (Andrew), and Amy Herrschaft (John) and 9 grandchildren and mother, Valerie Bates. He married Terry on February 18, 1978 at St. Justin Martyr Church in Anaheim, CA. HE was an alumni of Cal Poly Pomona, class of 1977, and majored in Chemical Engineering. He was employed at US Borax/Rio Tinto Minerals in Boron, CA for 38 years, most recently as a Principal Research Engineer. He was an active member of High Desert Church for 32 years, involved in AWANA, small groups, and men’s ministry. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the High Desert Church’s NEXT Fund to support the building of Point Discovery for kids. Memorial will be held Saturday, October 1, at 11:00 am at the Chapel at High Desert Church, 14545 Hook Blvd, Victorville, CA 92395. Hawaiian shirts optional.
