It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ruth Marie De Young, who peacefully left us on January 5, 2025, at the age of 83. Ruth was born on September 30, 1941, in California to Bernie and Genevieve Vasquez. She lived a life rich in love, dedication, and devotion to her family and work.
Ruth’s career spanned many years, where she worked as a secretary in various offices. Her organizational skills and attention to detail earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. But above all, Ruth was a mother, and her family was the center of her world. She was the heart of her household, a constant source of love, warmth, and support.
Ruth was preceded in death by the love of her life, her beloved husband, as well as two of her children, Robert Orona and Esther Orona, who have both gone to be with the Lord. Ruth’s unwavering commitment to her family never wavered, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and love that will continue to resonate in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew her.
Ruth is survived by her children, Frances Orona Cruz, and Thomas Orona; her grandchildren (9); her great-grandchildren (12); and her great-great-grandchildren (3). Ruth also leaves behind nine siblings who will forever hold her memory close.
Ruth had many passions in life, including crocheting, watering her plants, and shopping. She loved capturing precious moments with her camera, often filling photo albums with pictures of everything and everyone she loved. Ruth also enjoyed reading her Hollywood gossip magazines and watching her favorite crime TV shows, such as Law and Order, Nancy Grace, and Matlock.
As a Catholic, Ruth attended an all-girls Catholic school from kindergarten through 12th grade, and her faith remained an important part of her life.
Ruth will always be remembered as a great, great-grandmother—a rare blessing, having lived to see five generations. Her passion for loving and spoiling her grandchildren was evident, and they fondly recall her favorite saying, “If mother says no, ask grandma.”
A visitation will be held on January 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM and a graveside service at 1:00 PM. Details for the services will be shared in the coming days.
Ruth’s memory will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She will forever be remembered for the love she shared, the wisdom she imparted, and the strength she showed throughout her life.
May she rest in peace.
