

Tom was one of the pioneer real estate brokers in Apple Valley. Born September 1st 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, he moved as a child with his parents and sister to Glendale, California in 1944 where he attended Incarnation Catholic Grade School and where he first met his future wife Lucille McNeil.
Tom graduated cum laude from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks,California. In 1951 and at 18 married his sweetheart Lucille on August 23, 1952 and was married 64 years.
Tom served in the Korean Conflict for two years in the Army Security Agency and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant (E-5) in 1956.
He and Lucille, with two sons, moved to Apple Valley in 1958 where Tom started his real estate career and shortly thereafter founded Apple Valley Realty.
Tom was active in his church and was, for a few years, a teacher in High School of Religion at St. Mary's school in Apple Valley. He was appointed a Stephen Minister in 1988.
Tom loved fishing and boating and had a wonderful sense of humor. He also enjoyed his two airplanes which were based at the old Apple Valley Airport.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law Alla Johnston of Big Bear Lake, California. Son Ronald J. Johnston and daughter-in-law Katherina of Leesburg, Virginia, daughter Leah McCray and son-in-law Rodney of Lucerne Valley and son Christopher G. Johnston of Cedar city, Utah. 11 grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lucille, his son Thomas G Johnston, his grandson Scott Wood, his sister Carole Sheridan and his granddaughter Cayla M. Johnston.
Rosary, Funeral Mass and Reception will be on January 10th 2025 at 10:30 AM at our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church at 18386 Corwin Road, Apple Valley, CA followed by burial and light reception at Desert view Memorial Park. 11478 Amargosa Road, Victorville CA 92392.
