Within a year he was superintendent of the whole maintenance department for 13 schools. Zane retired after 27 years of working.

After all their children finished schools or got married, Zane and Mary moved to Apple Valley, CA. They loved the desert. They also traveled a lot in their 5th Wheel trailer!
Zane married Mary Belle Neal (Washam) in 1949 until her death in 2005. She was the love of his life and he missed her everyday! He would kiss her picture every morning and night.

Zane was blessed with 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. One grandchild preceded him in death, Kristofer Anthony Powell in 1995. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Zane loved to fish and go camping. Later on in life he loved to travel to different places in the U.S. with his daughter, Vicki. Zane and Vicki lived together and later she became his caretaker.
Zane also had his extended family, Brian and Cathy Andrews and their families. He could never thank them enough for all they did for him over the many years!
