Alex Fenetz, 85, died Saturday, August 11, 2018, in his residence.

He was a native of Forestville, Pennsylvania and had been a resident of Vinton for the last 65 years. Alex served as a tail gunner on a B-29 bomber during his service in the Air Force in the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post #208 in Vinton, the Rosarians, and was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vinton. He worked as a farmer and rancher his whole life. Alex enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, and in his later years, he enjoyed baking, but his greatest joy in his life was his family.

Survivors include his children, Tony Fenetz and wife, Kelli of Carlyss, Larry Fenetz and wife, Angela of Vinton, Leesa Ducote of Hackberry, and Jimmy Fenetz of Vinton; twenty grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Dr. Edwin Fontenot; his sister-in-law, Aline Fontenot; and his loyal pets, Ace and Tiki. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mercedes Fenetz; a son, Johnny Fenetz; his son-in-law, James Ducote; a grandson, Christopher Roy Ducote; and his ten siblings.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Carlos Garcia will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Cody Fenetz, Jude Fenetz, Jason Ducote, Gregory Ducote, Corey Fenetz, Matthew Fenetz, Chance Fenetz, Shawn Fenetz, Thomas Ducote, Samuel Ducote, Mitchel Ducote, and Benjamin Ducote. Visitation is from 3-9 p.m. Monday with a Cursillo Rosary at 7 p.m. and from 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice, especially Courtnie, Stephanie, and Addison for the loving care and support they gave Alex and his family, and also to the Oncology staff of West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at

It is with a broken heart we send this message. Alex you are now at peace and free from pain. We send our deepest sympathy to the entire Fenetz Family. We are so greatfull that you made that phone call to Canada 15 years ago. You opened up a door and introduced us to family we did not know existed. We will keep our memories of all the good times we had with You, Mercedes, Tony & Kelly, Margaret, Tony & Darlene Forever. You were a true gentleman and one of the most caring person that we have ever met. We Love and Miss You.
