Charles R. Smith

Charles Ray "Chuck" Smith, 87, died Wednesday, June 10, 2020, in a local care center.
He was a native of Springfield, Illinois and had been a resident of Vinton for over 60 years. Chuck worked his whole life as a home builder until his retirement. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Vinton. He enjoyed gardening and building projects around the house.
Survivors include his wife, Theresia Smith of Vinton; his children, Venus Vassar of Wimberly, Texas, Dara Foreman of Virginia, and Sheila Bellow Burton of Vinton; his brother, Robert Gene "Bob' Smith of Vinton; and several grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Lacy, Margaret Archuletta, and Opal Bryant.
A private graveside service will be held by his family in Niblett's Bluff Cemetery in Vinton under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home. The Rev. Rob Tibbitts will officiate. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.

I could not have asked for a better father for my neice than chuck or husband for my sister . They have been thru a lot but in all I have to say he was a great man. He will be missed. My prayers go to Theresia and the girls.

My sincere heartfelt condolences to all the family. Mr. Chuck was a genuine caring person. I’ve had the pleasure of working for him and Ms T. for many years. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends (and of course “Skeeter”)
