
Ivy Lee Hanks, Jr., died at 11:05 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, in his home.
Ivy was a native of LeCompte, and lived in Vinton for over 20 years. He attended the First Baptist Church of Vinton, where he served as a Deacon. Ivy was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce Hanks of Vinton; son, Roger Hanks of Vinton; daughters Vickie Dennis and husband David of Carencro, and Brenda Ulmer of Westlake; brother Rodney Hanks of Bayou Vista; sisters Christine Taylor of Big Spring, Texas, Vera Wackerly of Forest Hill, and Alice Barton of Forest Hill; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ivy Hanks, Sr. and Ruby Hanks; brothers, Raymond, Phillip and Eugene Hanks; sisters Hazel Appel and Ileen Hutto; and step-grandson Aaron Istre.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Forest Hill. The Rev. Bobby Daniel will officiate. Burial will be in Paul Cemetery in Forest Hill under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton and from 11 a.m. Tuesday until time of service at Calvary Baptist Church in Forest Hill.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be given to the American Cancer Society.
