James was the son of Jerry and Brenda Merchant and later married his loving spouse, Kathy in 1991. Together, they raised two beautiful children, Jessica and Jennifer. James was also a proud grandparent to two granddaughters and a grandson on the way.
Throughout his life, James had a passion for hunting, fishing, and cooking. He spent countless hours enjoying these hobbies, sharing his love for the outdoors with family and friends. James was an expert welder and took great pride in his work.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Merchant; father, Jerry Merchant; daughters, Jessica and Jennifer Merchant; grandchildren, Eastyn and Laiklyn Locklear; brother, Kevin Merchant and wife Michelle; sister, Leah Badeaux and husband Aaron; along with family friend, Haylee Pierce and her children.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Brenda Merchant; maternal grandparents, Leroy and Lottie D. Hosch; and paternal grandparents, J.L. and Pearl Merchant.
James' unwavering kind heart and joyful spirit touched the lives of so many with whom he encountered. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on through those he has impacted throughout his life.
May he rest in peace, surrounded by the memories of a life well-lived.
A Celebration of James' Life will be held at Hixson Funeral Home in Vinton on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 6:00 pm, with Bro. Rob Tibbitts officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, beginning at 5:00 pm until the time of the service.
