Janet graduated from Barbe High School and attended McNeese State University for two years. In 1977, Janet joined the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1981 as a CTA2. Janet and her partner, John, enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially for deer, hogs, and nuisance critters. They shared many years together at their beautiful camp in Burr Ferry, Louisiana.
Janet was preceded in death by her partner of 26 years, John Smith; and their beloved dog Echo, parents, Mel and Avis (Wisdom) Simonis; and sister Peggy Schouten.
She leaves to honor her memory brothers, Darrell (Martha) Simonis and JB Simonis; sister, Susan (Garland) Broussard; nieces and nephews John, Jim, Kimberly, Kelley, Jodie, Jessica, and Derek; and a host of extended family members and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and acknowledgements to Dr. Kevin Schlamp for his sincere and professional care, the VA, and Heart of Hospice. We are also so appreciative of the strong and valued friendships of her dear neighbors and friends from the VFW.
We will grieve the deep loss of our sister, aunt, and friend, but we are so thankful to have the joy of knowing Janet has surrendered her life and given her heart to Jesus and was greeted at the gates by so many that love her.
As were Janet’s wishes, a service will not be held. Burial will be in Burr Ferry Cemetery in Vernon Parish on Monday, May 10, 2021 where Janet will be laid to rest next to her long-time partner. Services entrusted to Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonvinton.com
