Joyce D. Johnson, 72, of Starks, Louisiana passed peacefully at home on Saturday, August 23, 2025. She was born on October 20, 1952 in Sulphur, Louisiana. Joyce was a native of Starks, Louisiana and retired from the state where she served as lieutenant of the weights and standards division.
Joyce lost her husband, Billy to cancer at a very young age. With two small children and a third one on the way, she endured a lot that made her the strong, independent mother she was. She chose to raise her children on her own, not remarrying until they were all grown. She would spend her later years with Tony enjoying her kids and grandkids until he passed.
Joyce thoroughly enjoyed her family and had a deep love for music and dancing. Mostly swamp pop and zydeco. She also loved great food and made an excellent gumbo which she passed down her recipe to her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, Angela Myers, Billy Glenn Myers, Jr. (Wendy), and Sharon Bourgeois (Richard); three siblings, Jacqueline Campbell, Ruth Veillon, and Richard Phillips; grandchildren, Kevin Myers, Erica Myers, Christopher Myers (Kristen), Olivia Myers, Kay Jones, Madilyn Bourgeois, and Liz Haynes. Joyce is also survived by her two very best friends, Becky Braneff and Beverly Clark that were neighbors, friends and truly family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband and father to her three children, Billy Glenn Myers, Sr.; her second husband, Tony Johnson; her mother, Mabel Granger Phillips; along with her father, Calvin Milam Phillips.
A Celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at Hixson Funeral Home in Vinton, Louisiana on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday, beginning at 10:00 am until the time of the service.
