Margaret Louise Pousson Durio, lovingly known as “Maw Maw Margaret,” passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on February 11, 1938, in Iota, Louisiana, to Lawrance and Helen Pousson. Margaret lived a life centered on faith, family, and unconditional love.
To know Margaret was to know warmth. Her home was always filled with the comforting smell of cooking — and anyone who knew her, knew she could make a boot taste good. Laughter often echoed around the table during games of Yahtzee as loved ones gathered to make memories that would last a lifetime.
Margaret was the definition of thoughtfulness, whether through carefully crocheted gifts made with love or the countless ways she cared for those around her. She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her greater joy than hearing the laughter of those she loved filling her home through the years. She also loved working puzzles, filling her home with family photos, and proudly cheering on her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their sporting events.
Margaret was the heart of her family — steady, faithful, and deeply devoted. She shared 61 years of marriage with her beloved husband, John Durio Sr., after marrying on November 22, 1958, in Iota, Louisiana. Together, they enjoyed life in “the country,” gardening side by side and enjoying the fruits of their labor.
Her faith in Christ guided her life daily. Her grandchildren remember hearing Maw Maw softly praying the Rosary late into the night during summers spent at her home — a quiet reminder of her unwavering faith and gentle spirit.
Some of the moments we laugh the hardest come during times of loss; when our hearts are tender, laughter and tears can rest so close together. What Margaret gave her family was greater than sorrow — she gave them each other. Surely, she was smiling down as her family gathered again under one roof, laughing like old times, sharing stories, and holding tightly to the love that always kept them together. If Margaret’s life had a mission—it was family, and she built, nurtured, and loved hers fiercely.
She is survived by her sons, John Durio Jr. and Justin Durio (Dana); sisters, Carrie Pyzalski and Janie Pierce (Mike); brother-in-law, Neville Reed (Ellen); grandchildren Derek Durio, Cody Durio (Lindsey), Cade Durio, Luci Coniglio (Matt), Brittany Bercier (Chris), and Johnna Smith (Dakota); and 16 treasured great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Durio Sr.; her parents, Lawrance and Helen Pousson; and her siblings, Judy Italio, Lawrance Pousson Jr., Donald Pousson, Ronald Pousson, and Michael Pousson.
