Melvin Joseph Royer

Vinton - Melvin Joseph Royer, 79, died Monday, April 9, 2018 in a local care facility.
Melvin was a lifelong resident of Vinton. He was an excellent husband of 58 years to his wife Nell and father to his children. He enjoyed ranching and working the cows.
He is survived by his four children; Joanie Royer, Lori Thower and husband Tony, Kenny Royer all of Vinton, Darryl Royer and wife Lucy of Starks; one sister, Laura O’quain and friend Ed Cass of Sulphur; five grandchildren, April Stonebarger, Jeremy Royer, Dylan Royer, Bryan Richard and Brett Richard; six great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Nell Royer and a host of other family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in Vinton, Louisiana. Visitation will be in the Hixson Funeral Home in Vinton from 5 - 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening, April 10, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. in the funeral home until time of service in the church at 10 a.m. Father Carlos Garcia will officiate. Burial will be in Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, Louisiana. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
