We were sorry we could not be there to pay our respects to Dr. Carlson and family. We want you to know how much we thought of him. He took care of both of us growing up and we always appreciated what a good doctor he was. Then as an adult Bill was grateful that he would give his time to do physicals for the Northside Middle School athletes each year. We have fond memories of Bill's mother Amanda working in Dr. Carlson's office. Vinton was blessed to have him. We are thankful that Dr. Carlson was a positive influence on our lives and he will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Gwen and your girls and their families. May God comfort and bless you all. With our sincere sympathy, Bill and Linda (Passmore) Shackelford

DR. Carlson was a good man, and a good Doctor. You could always depend on him, it didn't matter what time of the day or night, or what day of the week it was. If you called him him he would be there. My condolences go out to the family. I know that he will be greatly missed.

My condolences to all of Dr. Carlson family.

Just wanted to say for many of us he was the person who welcomed many us into the world at birth.
I know my parents Raywood and Willene were grateful to have him deliver everyone of the eight LeMaire children and continue to be our family doctor until he retired. We loved him.
My mom told me that when I was born Dr. Carlson asked them what you going to name her. They hadn’t picked out a name yet and he said how about Natalie. They both liked the name so Dr. Carlson choice of a name became my name
Wonder how many more children he named over the years.
I personally remember going to his office. The lady’s were always so nice as well.
Occasionally a house call like when I fell from a tree in neighbors yard at five years old and broke my arm in five places.
He came over and place my arm in a tight up sheet placed me on the backseat of our car and followed us to the hospital.
I think he was the first man other then my father that I trusted. That’s says a lot about him.
Friday nights with the doctor running on the football field behind the boys reassured all the parents if anything happened he was there. So don’t worry.
Just thought I would say what a legacy to be able to say he brought most of a town of Vinton into the world.
He was a great doctor and good friend to many.
May he Rest In Peace.
Prayers for your family.

Sincerely with love,
Natalie LeMaire Fruge and all of the LeMaire’s

First let me say my heart goes out to the family. (Carol I miss you girl.) I can remember going to see Doc many times thru my life. He was a great doctor and family friend. From the 1st time I busted my chin at about the age of 4 to the rare blood disease to many other things in my life doc was the best. Doc was one of those that took his time to fix what ever your issue was. He was not only an amazing doctor he was a great friend. I am so blessed to have the memories. May God give his family a peace that passes understanding. Lord hold them in you arms allowing them to grieve as needed while reassuring them that he is safely home with you Lord and one day they will meet again. PS I have to say but not sure how to word it right. Ms Gwen his amazing wife I am sure played a huge role in helping Doc be the amazing man and doctor he was. It is always easier when you have such an amazing support system beside you. Love and prayers heading out to you all.

It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.

My parents and Dr. & Mrs. Gwen Carlson were supposed to go to a football game in Houston on Saturday, 9/24/1966. I decided to make my entrance into the world that day, so my parents didn't make it to the game. Dr. Carlson, however, delivered me that afternoon and was still able to make the game! My grandmother was a nurse in his office for several years, and my parents bowled with the Carlsons on a bowling league. Such sweet memories of our beloved town doctor that took care of all of Vinton. Love and prayers sent to Mrs. Gwen and the Carlson family
