Roy Junior Barrett, 90, died Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in his home with his family by side. Poppa Roy will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather by his five generations of family and friends.
Roy was born in Roby, Texas and raised in Roscoe, Texas and has lived in Starks, Louisiana for 70 years. He was a Navy veteran who served in W.W. II. He retired from the Louisiana Forestry Service. He was a member of the V.F.W. of Starks and the American Legion of Vinton. He enjoyed gardening and was lovingly known as the cake man for his baking.
He is survived by two daughters; Carol Jean Landry of Vinton and Nancy Jo Drake and husband Quinton of Many, Louisiana; a sister, June Barrett Duncan of Lubbock, Texas; eight grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, ten great- great grandchildren and four nieces; he is preceded in death by his father, Roy Barrett and his mother, Gertie Simms, his wife, Bessie Lee Perkins Barrett, daughter, Billie Johnson, a great-great granddaughter, Alyvia Hebert and a niece, Gail Ann Schenk.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, November 20, 2017 in the First Pentecostal Church of Starks, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the church.
