Alfredo “Al” Lopes Almeida, 57, passed away after a two year battle with cancer on May 14, 2014. Born in 1956 in Penalva do Castelo, Portugal. Son of Cristina Almeida and the late Joaquim Almeida, husband to Maria Cristina Almeida, and father to Matthew and Tiffany Almeida. He is survived by his mother, brother, two sisters, extended family and friends.
Al came to the USA at 10 years of age, raised in Rhode Island, enlisted and served in the US Navy for 33 years. He retired in 2010 as a Commander. Al loved his wife, children, family, friends, and the New England Patriots.
Visitation will be Friday, May 16th from 6-8pm at Smith and Williams Funeral Home on 4889 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA, 23462. A Funeral Mass will be Saturday, May 17th at 10am at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church on 5354 Virginia Beach Blvd, 23462. Burial service will follow at Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 N. Great Neck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA.
