Barbara Scully Stein, 72, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2023 in Virginia Beach. She was born in Taunton, Massachusetts to the late Vincent and Ann (Synan) Scully. She was a proud graduate of Radford University. Barbara had a lengthy career as an Elementary School Librarian for Norfolk Public Schools. She was an avid reader, gardener, and cook. Barbara was also very talented at flower arranging. She was formerly a member of Just Seniors at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Princess Anne Circle of the King's Daughters where she sewed teddy bears for children to receive after surgery.
Barbara was predeceased by her loving husband of 32 years, Jerry Stein; and a brother, Joe Scully.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Rob Kitchens; sister, Pat Scully; brother, Jim Scully (Janet); nephews Jay (Maggie) and Brian Scully; and niece Gina Scully.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and residents of First Colonial Inn. Barbara lived there for the last two and a half years and received excellent care and developed terrific friendships. We will hold dear the wonderful memories and relationships that were made there.
The family will receive friends from 5-8:00 pm, on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
