Obituary of Bettie E. Harrison
Bettie Harrison, 82, from the Willoughby – West Ocean View area, passed away on June 15, 2018. She was a graduate from Granby High School; and served in the US Air Force as a Corpsman. Bettie worked for the Crippled Children’s Home in Richmond and was employed by JC Penney in the credit department. She was an avid stamp and coin collector. Very thrifty and wise with money, saving from every paycheck. She was very generous, helping neighbors and lending money to those in need. One of Bettie’s greatest joys came from working with her family during many summers on the Harrison’s Fishing Pier and on chartered head boats. She had the priviledge of teaching young people, including her family members, how to fish, filet fish, and crab with her famous fileting knife. Bettie was the glue that kept the family together, informed and in touch with each other. The oldest of seven children, Bettie had a deep love for her sisters, looking out for them and teaching them to swim. She also had a great love for her many nieces and nephews and their children; she had a strong bond with her great-nephew, Brennen, nurturing his love of books, during their frequent visits. Bettie took care of many family members, including her parents, uncles, and aunts, during their illnesses with her loving heart. Her grandson, Hunter Harrison, passed away in 2006, and her son, Preston Harrison, passed away in 2017. Though met with many hardships, Bettie was known for her smile and positive attitude. She has often said, “I’ve had a good life”.
