Carmine Albert Palermo, USN (ret.) passed away August 17, 2015 at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital. Carmine was born in Bronx, New York to Italian immigrants. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1952 and proudly served as a Hospital Corpsman for 36 years, during which he attained a Masters in Hospital Administration. After retiring from the Navy, Carmine's career continued another 25 years at the Norfolk Health Department. He retired in July, 2015 as a Disease Prevention Specialist.
Carmine was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 49 years, Martha; his daughter and son-in-law, Nora and Stanley Burchfield; three grandchildren, Collin, Elise, and Juliet; and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home Kempsville. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Monday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, followed by burial at 1 pm in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.
