Catherine Stengel Taylor

Virginia Beach - Catherine Taylor, 91, departed this life for her eternal reward on March 30, 2016. Born on June 1, 1924 in the Bronx, N.Y., she was a graduate of Granby High School, Norfolk, VA. She faithfully attended Kempsville Baptist Church and was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Garland Russell Taylor of Virginia Beach; her parents, Louis Joseph and Katherine Thompson Stengel; and her brothers, Joseph Stengel and Russell Stengel.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Barry and husband Robert Barry of Ruther Glen, VA; son, Garland Taylor Jr. and wife Belinda of Suffolk, VA; grandsons, Warren Taylor of Blacksburg, VA, Andrew Barry of Richmond, VA, and Patrick Barry and wife Virginia of Austin, TX; and niece, Vivian Willman of Norfolk. Catherine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her generosity was greatly appreciated by her family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 4, 2016 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home Kempsville Chapel, Virginia Beach, VA, with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
