

Christopher Thomas Smathers, born March 2, 1975, a lifelong resident on Poppy Cres., in Va. Beach, VA passed away at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital after a long battle with Eihlers Danlos Syndrome on December 9, 2015, when God decided to call him home.
Chris graduated from Green Run High School and attended TCC for a short period before joining the Merchant Marine’s and going to work for Atlantic Tankships. He then went to work for Pembroke Office Park where he was employed until his illness became too severe. He was a life-long member of Rock Church. Chris had a passion for sports, cars and music.
Chris is survived by his parents Darlene and Tom Smathers, a sister, Jaime Lynn Smathers, all at Va. Beach and a half brother and sister who reside in Florida. He had numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and a small group of close friends. He is survived by his namesake Christopher Thomas Xaros, who he always loved.
A special thanks to Dr. Allen Fenderson, Dr. Martin O’Grady, VCU and all medical professionals, Sentara Va. Beach Hospital and Sentara Princess Anne for many years of care provided to him. I would personally like to thank the ICU Staff at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital for the wonderful care they provided.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Smith and Williams Funeral Home in Va. Beach. The viewing will be held on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015 at 1pm. The funeral service will follow at 2pm. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.smithandwilliamskempsville.com.
