Obituary of David Brett Jones
David Brett Jones age 57 of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Bretharte Louis Jones and Marlene Faye Gossett. A Celebration of Life will be held on a future date. David was born on January 10, 1966 in Amsterdam, New York. The third son to Bretharte Louis and Marlene Faye (Bessel) Jones. He met his wife to be Janice in the spring of 1991 when introduced to her by his brother’s girlfriend. From that day on, he and Janice were always together. They finally married 12 years later in 2003. Instead of having children, he and Janice decided just to raise cats. During their 32 years together, David and Janice had 12 fur babies. All of these “babies” were important members of the Jones family. David loved fine dining and expensive wines. Going out was always treated as an event however often he and Janice would go out. It would include getting dressed up, picking out the perfect entrée along with the perfect wine. David was introduced to the musical theater by Janice. He grew to love it and always looked forward to attending the shows every year. When at home, he loved tinkering with his bike, playing with the cats, and birdwatching. David loved to go on long rides on his road bike on the back roads of Virginia Beach and into North Carolina. He loved bikes since he was young. He had raced BMX bikes were he had won many trophies. He was also an avid tennis player and loved playing matches with his brothers. He continued to play until an ankle injury and surgery in the mid 90s which prevented him from ever playing again. As a child he adored chasing after his brothers, Jeff and Steve and always wanted to be a part of what they were doing. As an adult, this didn’t change. They would go golfing with their father Bret whenever they got the chance. Their most favorite time to play was Christmas day where they would sneak onto the golf course and play as many holes as they could before having to leave to get ready for dinner. Attending family dinners was always important to David. This is where he would be able to share time with his brothers, his father and his mother. During this time they would talk about childhood memories, funny things that had happened to them (or someone else) during the week. The most memorable part of these get together dinners was the laughter. Although seeming always serious and aloof to outsiders, he valued the friends that he had. He would gladly help any of them whenever they needed anything. David is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Janice Lynelle (Hershley) Jones, his brother Jeffrey George Jones and girlfriend Sandy and brother Steven Scott and his wife Laurie Jones of Virginia Beach. Quote from Janice How do you put into words a life of 57 years? There aren’t enough words or pages that could be filled to amount to the things he has done and the people that he has touched. His twisted sense of humor always kept me laughing. And when angry, all he had to do was crack a smile at me or laugh and I would laugh back at him instantly forgiving him. His sensitivity never ceased to amaze me. He cared so much for the environment and animals that it broke his heart when he would see horrible things happen. I am so proud and lucky to have been David’s wife and had the opportunity to share 32 years of life with him. The things and music that he introduced me to will always remain an important part of my life. This is a part of him that I will always cherish You are forever in my heart and I will miss you forever David. I know that you will be watching over me until I see you again. Love you bunches “Brown-Brown” Forever yours, “Chicken” Our Song: Absolute Beginners by David Bowie
