Eugene Gene Matthew Kennedy

Virginia Beach - Eugene “Gene” Matthew Kennedy died peacefully March 30, 2017. He was born May 26, 1929 in Huron, SD. His parents, Frank and Laura Kennedy; sister, Lois; and loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy Kennedy, predeceased Gene. He is survived by his brother, Jack (Helen); children, Nadene, Michele (Fred Hauck), and Mark and Barbara Kennedy; and grandsons, Benjamin (Jessica Pentland) and Matthew (Colleen Sinnott) Kennedy. In 1948, Gene enlisted in the Navy. He served on seven ships, culminating his career in command of USS AFFRAY (MSO-511). He retired from the Navy after 22 years of service in 1970. Gene then worked at McCallum Testing Laboratories for over 20 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, always focused on his family. He and his wife were active members of Thalia Trinity Presbyterian Church and delivered Meals on Wheels for nearly 20 years. We would like to acknowledge the great care provided by those at OLPH and Medi Home Health and Hospice. The family will receive visitors at Smith & Williams Funeral Home Kempsville Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 6-8 PM.
