Frances “Pat” Bowen Phillips, age 74, passed away on March 11, 2022 in Virginia Beach just six days shy of her 75th birthday. Born March 17, 1947 in Suffolk, Virginia, she grew up in South Norfolk with her parents, three sisters and brother.
After graduating from Great Bridge High School in 1965, she briefly attended Ferrum College. Having excellent math skills, Pat soon after took a job at the Virginia National Bank. While working there, she was setup on a blind date, with Frank Phillips, who would eventually become her loving husband of over 50 years. During those years she not only raised three children of her own, but helped nurture many young lives as a home daycare provider, Sunday School teacher, and Cookie Mom with the Girl Scouts.
Pat is survived by her husband, 3 children and their spouses, 6 grandchildren, 3 sisters, a brother, and many other relatives and friends whose lives she touched throughout her years. She loved people, especially the children she met in her time as a daycare provider. She had a passion for animals and was also a mother to many pets over her lifetime. One of her favorite past times was spending time on Kerr Lake at “the cottage” with her family. While at the cottage, she loved playing games, watching birds, reading, and walking.
A celebration of her life will be held at Community United Methodist Church, 1072 Old Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23464. 757-495-1021.
Pat loved animals almost as much as her family, friends, and children. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA at https://vbspca.com/donate/.
Our family would like to thank each and every one of you personally for celebrating Pat’s life with us today. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.smithandwilliamskempsville.com
