

James Bernard Lynch, Jr., USN (ret.), 88, passed away on August 15, 2015. James was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Emma Lynch. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Dora; his brothers, Ed, Frank and Bill; and a sister, Arlene.
James entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 and was a WWII veteran who served as a torpedo man on submarines. After retiring from the Navy, James continued his education and then worked for Hampton Roads Public Works until retirement. He was a dedicated auxiliary member of the Submarine Veterans of WWII, Shriners, Masons and Khedive Temple. James enjoyed spending time in the Outer Banks, and researching genealogy.
Left to cherish James’ memory is his son, Rex Miller and his wife, Chong; 4 grandchildren, Chang, Tae, James, and Kimberly; great-grandsons, Zachery and Tyler; a great-granddaughter, Rachel; and other relatives and friends. James was a positive guiding influence for the entire family and will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
