Born on November 29, 1942, in Norfolk, Virginia, Julie was the cherished daughter of the late William F. and Margaret B. Dixon.
She grew up in the Norfolk community and graduated from Norview High School in 1961.
Julie was a woman of dedication and intellect, which shone brightly throughout her distinguished career. After graduating, she spent two years working with the Allstate Insurance Company before entering the Federal Civil Service at the Norfolk Naval Supply Center. It was there that she met the love of her life, Norman L. Fischer. The two were married and shared forty-two wonderful years together before Norman preceded her in death in 2004. Julie’s career flourished as she moved to the Atlantic Division of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command. Her sharp mind and steadfast work ethic led her to retire 36 years later as the Activities Comptroller, a testament to her lifelong commitment and capability.
Above all her professional accomplishments, Julie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her legacy of love and family lives on through her surviving family: her son, Shawn S. Fischer, and his former wife, Jennifer; her daughter, Karen Shay Knight; her grandchildren, Mary and Drew Fischer, and Haley Adams and her husband, Cody; and her great-grandchildren, Isaac and Ariel.
A private gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home to celebrate Julie's life and honor her memory.
