Katherine H. Quinn

Katherine H. Quinn, 78, passed away on Sunday, January 8th, 2012. Born in Norfolk, Mrs. Quinn was a lifelong resident of Princess Anne County in Virginia Beach. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Hessel and Katherine Portner Hessel. Kay retired as a secretary from the Virginia Beach Public Schools, where she also sat on multiple councils and committees. She volunteered for many years in the P.T.A., serving as president at Plaza Jr. and Green Run High Schools and secretary for the State P.T.A. Kay was a lifelong Episcopalian and member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, where she donated much time, chaired Bazaars, worked as Asst. Treasurer and was a former president of The Episcopal Church Women.

Kay was full of grace, generous of heart, gentle in spirit, and genuinely kind. She touched and affected the lives of many, and she will be sorely missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Robert L. Quinn; her only daughter Leslie Rawls and husband Jason; three sisters, Helen Vredenburg, Phyllis Sawyer and husband, William; Margaret Moore and husband, Dixie; eight nephews and one niece.

The family will receive friends at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of Mrs. Quinn’s life will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church.
